Experiment Control Systems (ECS)
The Experiment Control Systems (ECS) Division is responsible for designing, deploying, commissioning, and maintaining the control electronics and software in the X-ray experimental areas that support LCLS’ science mission. The team also provides Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for the data and control systems in operation, ensuring the successful execution of user experiments.
ECS team members contribute to advancing control system technology across SLAC, the DOE complex, and science facilities worldwide.
Organizational Structure
The division is organized into two departments:
- The Platform Department: develops the core controls hardware and software stack, and provides expert support to projects and operations
- The Delivery Department: embeds staff within the instrument teams of the OPS Division to assist with experiment planning, deployment, and execution.
