SLAC Access Requirements for LCLS Scientific Users
- As a User of LCLS, you are expected to adhere to the Stanford University Code of Conduct whether you are working onsite or remotely.
- LCLS strives to provide a respectful place of work, free of harassment, intimidation, or exploitation.
- Stanford’s Office of Ethics and Compliance provides an anonymous web form for questions or concerns. For submissions related to LCLS, please select ‘Other’ for the question ‘What is your primary affiliation to Stanford University’ and type ‘LCLS’ in the ‘Please describe’ section. The submission will be forwarded to SLAC counsel and handled in confidence.

To participate in an experiment onsite at SLAC
An Onsite User must be identified as an onsite participant for an approved experiment, be authorized to participate by the experiment spokesperson, and complete all necessary screening for site access.
Arrange Lodging | - Stanford Guest House: Rooms are available only for Users with approval for SLAC onsite access - Other Nearby Accommodations |
User Agreements | Confirm there is a current and valid User Agreement between your institution and SLAC |
Online Training | Complete Online Training courses before arriving at SLAC to either receive a new badge or renew proximity access on current badge |
Unix Computer Accounts | Establish or confirm Computer Accounts, set up & access Electronic Logbook (eLog) |
LCLS Data Analysis | Get ready to perform LCLS Data Analysis tasks during your experiment. |
Shipping & Exporting | Arrange Shipping and Exporting Equipment and Materials |
Financial Accounts | Establish a user Financial Account to send samples, dewars, or other equipment between SLAC and your institution if the group will be using SLAC for shipping |

To participate in an experiment via Remote collaboration tools (Data Systems/eLog, Zoom, etc.)
A Remote User must be identified as a remote participant for an approved experiment, and be authorized to access experimental data and data systems by the experiment spokesperson and SLAC/LCLS management.

Online Training | For users needing Unix computer account to access eLog, complete Online Training only for Course CS100 'Cyber Security for Laboratory Users' |
Unix Computer Accounts | Establish or confirm Computer Accounts, set up & access Electronic Logbook (eLog) |
Remote Experiment Participation | Ensure that you are able to effectively use the Tools for Remote Participation in Experiments provided by LCLS. Work with your POC to test the tools ahead of your experiment. |
LCLS Data Analysis | Get ready to perform LCLS Data Analysis tasks remotely during your experiment. |
